The seventh edition of the AEI Film Festival is gearing up for a showcase in June 2024 at the open-air amphitheatre of the Cultural Centre of the Bank of Cyprus, nestled in the historic heart of Nicosia.
The film submission process is already underway, promising an engaging cinematic experience for enthusiasts and filmmakers alike.
Renowned as one of the premier festivals for archaeological and ethnographic documentaries within the European Union, the official Festival of Archaeological, Ethnographic, and Historical Cinema of Cyprus (AEI Film Festival) is set to captivate audiences with its seventh installment.
Generously supported by the “Culture” programme of the Department of Modern and Contemporary Culture, Ministry of Culture, this year’s edition boasts several innovations. Notably, the festival’s duration has been extended to an impressive nine consecutive days, running from June 8 to June 16, 2024, and will feature four competitive sections.
Filmmakers with a penchant for archaeological, ethnographic, and historical content are invited to submit their creations for approval on the Film Freeway platform until April 21.
Stavros Papageorgiou, the artistic director of the AEI Film Festival, proudly announced that the festival has once again secured the esteemed EFFE Label 2024-2025, a testament to its commitment to the arts and international recognition.
The 2024 AEI Film Festival promises significant enhancements compared to previous editions, encompassing four competitive sections showcasing both foreign and Cypriot documentaries.
The youth section will see an augmentation with student-produced short documentaries from Cyprus and abroad, supplementing the compelling offerings of the SYNeKPAIDEFSI programme. Beyond the screenings, the festival will feature impactful educational and entertaining events.
In a new tradition adopted this year, the AEI Film Festival will honour the Netherlands as the Honoured Country, welcoming students and educators from the country along with competing films. Additionally, the festival will pay homage to the Chania Film Festival.
