SYNOPSIS:

The Honorary Artist of this year’s seventh AEI Film Festival will be Adonis Christoforou for his contribution to photography and directing.
Mr. Christoforou will be honored on Tuesday, October 19, 2024, at 7:00pm, at the CVAR Foundation, 285 Ermou Street, Nicosia, as part of the AEI
Film Festival 2024. The screening of the two documentaries “Enas Karpasitis” will follow produced by RIK, and directed by the honorary director.
At the venue of the event there will be an exhibition of photographs from the documentary filming of the period 1977-1982.

Enas Karpasitis, duration 32 minutes, part A, 1977.
On 14 January 1977, Zacharias Nicola Zaopoda, a family man with five children, was expelled from the from his village in Karpasia by the Turkish occupation forces and arrived with his wife and children to the free areas.
The film begins from the moment he arrived at the Red Cross headquarters in Nicosia, following him on his journey to temporary settlement somewhere in the areas controlled by the State, his mental ordeal, his arduous struggle for daily survival while the dream of his village remains for Zacharias a dimension of his life that no external factor can uproot.

Enas Karpasitis, 33′, Part B, 1978-1982:

Documentary with authentic scenes from the life of the refugee family of Zacharias Nikola Zaopoda from Agia Triada Karpasia who settled in the village of Pelathoussa in the Paphos district in January 1977. The film is a continuation of Part A of the documentary “Enas Karpasitis” which recorded his fleeing to the free areas and his efforts to re-establish himself.

ΒΙΟGRAPHY

Adonis Christoforou was born in Nicosia and graduated from the Pancyprian High School. He studied cinema in London where, after his studies, he worked for a few years. He repatriated in 1968 and joined RIK Television where he worked as an editor, cinematographer, producer/director, head of the Film Archive and purchasing foreign programming for broadcast on the two RIK television channels. For three decades he had sole responsibility for securing films for the two RIK television channels.

In 2015 by RIK and the Guild of  Cyprus Directors  as a member of the RIK Film Workshop for his contribution to television and cinema

In 2024 by the Strovolos Photography Club for his contribution to photography
